As the demographic disrtribution is leaning towards older age group in the incidences of patients suffering from low back ache is one of the most commonest complaints in a orthopaedician's practice. Degenerative spinal disorders remain on top of the list while diagnosing patients with low back ache. Spondylolysithesis has remained a controversial spinal condition as far as the surgical treament is concerned. The patients diagnosed with spondylolysthesis who were treated with PLIF were analysed as functional outcome with improvement of the low back pain, pain radiating to the lower limbs, improvement of efficacy in the employment and the union assessed radiologically. A total of 24 patients were diagnosed with spondylolysthesis and treated with PLIF among which 16 were females and 8 were males between the age group of 45-75 years. Patients were classified between Grade 1-3 depending upon the severity of the lysthesis and evaluated post-operatively using criteria used by Stauffer and Coventry. 82.6 % patients showed excellent results and 17.3% showed good results. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of PLIF as surgical treatment for degenerative spondylolysithesis.
